5.6 Direct Payments Rates

A family/young person's Direct Payment package should be calculated and costed as follows:

  1. Where the family are employing their own carer:

The standard (composite)  Direct Payment rate for the care @ £10.87 per hour

(NB this rate includes amounts for  employers' National Insurance, cover for sickness & annual leave and admin time and so is not the rate at which the employed carer is paid. The recommended minimum pay rate is £8.45 per hour)

The Sleepover Direct Payment Rate for overnight  care @ £37.24 per night

The cost of a fully enhanced CRB check

The cost of the FISH employers liability insurance premium
  2. Where the family have chosen to purchase care from an agency

Where the family are purchasing the care from an agency Direct Payments will be paid at the  hourly rate charged by the least expensive local approved care agency - unless a more expensive agency is the only one able to provide the care to the child, in which case their higher rate can be paid.
  3. Transport

Only where essential  transport forms part of the service  plan, mileage at the rate of 40 pence  per mile or the actual cost of a taxi or public transport fare is payable.
